Flavor and role

A dark liquid seasoning made from hydrolysed vegetable protein. A few drops give strong savoury depth and saltiness.

Typical dishes and uses

Vietnamese banh mi, egg dishes, African stews, fried rice, German soups

Substitutes

1 tsp Maggi = 1 tsp regular soy sauce + a few drops of fish sauce (or a pinch of MSG).

Storage

Unopened: 2-3 years at room temperature. Opened: 1 year in a cool place.
