Cook's tip
For a richer soup, swap part of the milk for cream. Leftover crackers stay crisp for about a day in an airtight box. Using leftover roast chicken? Leave out the raw breast in step 3 and simmer only until the potato is tender.
Cooking it at camp
The soup needs only one pot on a camp stove. Bake the crackers at home and pack them in an airtight box, or use store-bought crackers or toasted bread instead. Keep the milk cold in the cooler.
