Beef Empanadas
Argentine baked pastries filled with seasoned beef, egg and olives.
Method
Rub the butter into the flour and salt with your fingertips, add the water and knead into a dough. Wrap in cling film and rest for . You can use shop-bought frozen pastry instead.

medium-high heatRoll the dough 3 mm thick and cut out 6 rounds 12 cm across. Put 1½ tbsp of filling on each and fold into half-moons. This takes in total.

Seal the edges by folding and twisting them or pressing with a fork, then brush with egg wash.

Bake in the oven at 200°C for until golden. Up to 12 fit on one baking tray, so the baking time stays the same.

Cook's tip
If the filling is warm, the dough melts and bursts. Always let it cool completely before filling. Chimichurri sauce goes well with them.
Cooking it at camp
Shape and freeze them at home, then bake them in a Dutch oven (12 coals on top, 6 underneath) for 25 to 30 minutes.
