Cook's tip

A real bánh mì needs a thin, crackly crust and an airy crumb. If your baguette is dense, pull out a little of the soft middle. The pickle keeps for a week in the fridge.

Cooking it at camp

Make the pickle at home and bring it in a jar. At camp, fry and glaze the bacon in a pan, and warm the baguette on the grill grate for 1 to 2 minutes, turning it.
