Cook's tip

Runny dulce de leche squeezes out between the layers, so use a thick one or chill it before spreading. It is very sweet, so don't skip the salt. Keep leftovers in the fridge and take slices out 20 minutes before eating.

Cooking it at camp

Finish it at home, pack it in a sturdy box and keep it high in the cooler. The dulce de leche layer softens in the heat, so eat it on the first day.
