Gochujang Rosé Geschnetzeltes with Pork and Rice Cakes
A Swiss–Korean mash-up: pork strips, mushrooms and chewy rice cakes in a Zurich-style cream sauce turned rosé with gochujang.
Method
If your rice cakes are hard or straight from the fridge, soak them in lukewarm water for to soften. Meanwhile cut the pork into strips 1 cm wide and 5 mm thick and season with the salt and pepper; slice the onion, thinly slice the garlic and cut the mushrooms 4 mm thick.

Heat the oil in a frying pan over high heat (pan size · number of batches: 26 cm · 1×), spread out the pork and stir-fry each batch for until the outside turns pale and lightly golden. Set aside on a plate; it finishes cooking in the sauce.

medium heatSpoon into bowls, scatter generously with spring onion and serve at once. Rice cakes firm up as they cool, so eat it hot.
Add in this stepSpring onion, sliced 1
Cook's tip
Adjust the heat with the gochugaru. If the sauce reduces too far, loosen it with a splash more milk. Penne or udon noodles work in place of rice cakes, and a handful of mozzarella melted on top makes it even richer.
Cooking it at camp
Slice and season the pork at home and keep it in a cooler below 5 °C; pre-mix the gochujang, gochugaru and sugar in a small tub. One wide pan and a burner are enough, and soft fresh rice cakes need no soaking, which saves water.
